For every high school student, applying to colleges for undergraduate programs is probably the most crucial and mandatory activity. Students usually want to try their best to secure admission in their desired colleges, possibly with some form of scholarship of financial aid. This is to be done keeping in mind that no time is wasted in waiting for further college deadlines. Taking a gap year or gap semester is not something to be ashamed of, but who would not want to graduate early and fulfil dreams!
Hence there are some tips that you must keep in mind as high school final year student.College applications are not as easy as you think they are because firstly, it is not just one college that you would apply to for admission and secondly, each college requires a lot of online application formalities and paperwork. I asked a few people to write me an assignment and do my high school work for a short period of time so I could focus completely on the college application. Following are the tips that you must follow for a smooth application process:

1)      Begin researching as soon as your final year at high school begins: Students who wait for the last moment always end up being stuck in some sort of panic during the application process. If you begin researching about colleges during high school summer break or immediately when school begins, you will have a clear idea of what each college you aim for requires thereby eliminating or at least minimizing the chances of panic. So use the internet and college websites to check if a college is according to your needs and requirement.

Analyze each and everything from the college’s facilities, infrastructure, years of service, fee structure, financial awards and scholarships before including them in your list.

2)      Shortlist the colleges you choose: As you research about colleges, keep shortlisting the best suitable ones along with it so that you can save time. Shortlisting process is a very important one because you know that you will have to join one of the shortlisted colleges. So do everything carefully through your own research and by taking suggestions from seniors and experts. As you shortlist the colleges, note down their application deadlines and requirements that are not yet met. This will make the application process easier.

3)      Start working on online applications: If there is a college whose deadline is earlier than the rest, begin with it first and try to get done with online application as soon as possible so that you have enough time for the main part i.e. application essay. If, as is the case quite often, the deadlines are close to each other for all colleges, you will have to take online applications of all simultaneously.

4)      The essay deserves most of your time: Finally, start writing drafts for college essays that are required by each college. According to an academic expert, admissions are mainly based on what you demonstrate about yourself through words i.e. essay. I used to spend a lot of time in writing, proofreading and rewriting drafts so that I can submit as perfect essay as possible. This often forced me to ask people to write my assignment for my high school.
